Staff Picks

When looking for something to read who better to ask than a librarian?! So one of our creative staff decided that she would put together a list of reviews and ideas from all of our library staff, which became a quarterly project. We’d love to have your input, whether a review or a comment here on the blog. Below is a sample from the latest staff picks, and you can read the whole list by clicking here

The Secret

by Rhonda Byrne

158.1/BYR

I was attracted to this delightful little book by its title which made me wonder what The Secret was and why all the hype?  As soon as I began to read it, I could see why this book would appeal to so many people.  Sceptics or cynics may disagree, but I finished the book feeling elated and inspired.  I liked what I had read – so much of the wisdom contained within made sense to me.  The author presents her ideas in a very easy-to-read format, using lots of quotations from various teachers including well-known authors, lecturers, doctors and businessmen who already know The Secret and practice its principles.  After revealing what The Secret is, the author demonstrates how it can be used in relation to money, relationships, health, the world and life in general.  Rhonda Byrne states that her intention in creating The Secret is to bring joy to billions of people around the world.  She has made me realise that I am an important part of the universe and has showed me how I can use The Secret to influence the direction of my path in life.  Sounds a bit corny or too good to be true?  Read the book and judge for yourself.
